Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Princely Umanmielen, the No. 27 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
A straight-up fair deal on Aeneas Peebles at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Princely Umanmielen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Trey Zuhn III in pick 122, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Marques Cox went about where he belonged in pick No. 154. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Chris Marshall at Round 7, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Will Sheppard, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
