The rest of the league will want that one back. Daequan Hardy tumbling to the Chiefs in pick 252 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They will need Wiley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
If Darius Robinson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Darius Robinson at par in slot 33, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Keon Coleman at pick 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Kris Abrams-Draine was the payoff at the 95th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jalen McMillan in No. 100 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 102 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dylan Laube. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in the 158th overall pick, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jared Wiley at No. 172 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 177 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Tayvion Robinson in pick 231; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Daequan Hardy in slot 252 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
