The Chiefs did not so much draft Marcus Dumervil as overpay for him, 75 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Fannin Jr.. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Harold Fannin Jr., who had no business lasting to the 63rd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Alfred Collins slipping to slot 66 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 31 with a little surplus value in Denzel Burke. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Kyren Lacy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Marcus Dumervil in pick No. 256 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
