You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Mason Taylor in pick No. 254.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Tyler Warren in the 59th pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Jalen Royals in the 61st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Denzel Burke at pick 64 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Elic Ayomanor at Round 3, Pick 32 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 133 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Mason Taylor in pick No. 254 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
