Nobody else had Baylor Cupp anywhere near pick 252. The Chiefs did, by 94 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in pick No. 64. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in slot 95, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Jacob Cowing at pick 132 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Walter Rouse at the 159th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III at No. 173 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Baylor Cupp at Round 7, Pick 32, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
