Somebody in Round 7, Pick 32 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Trente Jones, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Stover has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
Cade Stover at No. 64 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Brenden Rice at par in Round 3, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Christian Jones in the 132nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Jacob Cowing higher than slot 159, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 173 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Trente Jones at the 252nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
