Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs bled value on every deal, hence the C-.

The Chiefs looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Theo Johnson at No. 95 regardless, 41 picks early.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Fisher at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.14 · Pick 46 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the 46th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 67
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 32. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
Xavier Legette in No. 73 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 70
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Fisher at pick No. 82. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 79
Jaylen Wright slid further than he should have, and pick 90 is lovely value for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 84
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in slot 92, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 136
Theo Johnson in the 95th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Marcus Harris · DE-EDGE · rank 141
Marcus Harris in No. 133 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 150
Justin Eboigbe slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 191
Steele Chambers at the 193rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
