The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for DeMonte Capehart, 38 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Bertrand that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Payton Wilson at No. 69 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at the 95th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamal Hadden at Round 4, Pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick No. 139 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Jaylen Wright at par in slot 158, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Harrell in the 172nd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
JD Bertrand at the 210th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at Round 7, Pick 30, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
