The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Taulia Tagovailoa, 36 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Eichenberg makes the weekend a net positive. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Leonard Taylor III in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Kalen King in the 132nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They read the board right and Tommy Eichenberg was the payoff at No. 159. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Julian Pearl in pick 173, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taulia Tagovailoa at the 252nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
