The Chiefs did not so much draft Eric Watts as overpay for him, 57 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Thomas Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Steal is underselling it; Brian Thomas Jr. at the 64th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Kingsley Suamataia all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ainias Smith at pick 132 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Sataoa Laumea in the 159th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Eric Watts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Tyrice Knight at the 252nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
