The rest of the league had time to spare on Eric O'Neill; the Chiefs did not wait, grabbing him 58 spots ahead at pick 210.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That Woods pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 29 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 40, where Peter Woods graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Daylen Everette in the 74th pick, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Michael Trigg at Round 4, Pick 9 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
CJ Daniels at the 148th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Travis Burke at pick No. 169 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Seth McGowan enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 176. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Eric O'Neill in the 210th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
