You could see the war room lean forward. Blake Watson at No. 252 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Ogunbiyi left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Jordan Morgan in the Round 1 slot, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in Round 2, Pick 31, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jamari Thrash went about where he belonged in pick No. 94. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow DJ James was still sitting there in slot 131, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Malik Mustapha all the way to pick 161, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Aki Ogunbiyi at No. 171 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A conviction pick on Eric Watts at the 175th pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in the 209th overall pick: De'Corian Clark for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Blake Watson in slot 252 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
