Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Jarrian Jones, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 159th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Patrick Paul in the 64th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the 95th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in No. 132, where Theo Johnson graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Jarrian Jones all the way to pick No. 159, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Walter Rouse slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Jalen Sundell in pick 252, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
