The Chiefs looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Abdul Carter at the 66th pick regardless, 51 picks early.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Morrison falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Benjamin Morrison slid further than he should have, and the 32nd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Dylan Fairchild in slot 64; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Abdul Carter at pick No. 66 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Rylie Mills at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Phil Mafah at pick 133 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tez Johnson in Round 5, Pick 30. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Shilo Sanders at No. 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor itch, scratched.
