The Chiefs did not so much draft Gerry Bohanon as overpay for him, 216 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A wild overpay on Will Howard in Round 2, Pick 32, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Aeneas Peebles in No. 68 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tez Johnson at the 96th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trevor Etienne in pick No. 133 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamren Fabiculanan in the 255th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gerry Bohanon well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
