The rest of the league will want that one back. Jacob Cowing tumbling to the Chiefs in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, DeWayne Carter went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kalen King at No. 158 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach the 172nd overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
