The Chiefs bet big and early on Cedric Johnson, 54 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Theo Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Anthony Gould at pick 132 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Jefferson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Cedric Johnson in slot 173, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach on Joshua Cephus in pick 252; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
