Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Elijah Sarratt got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the 109th overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Mansoor Delane at pick 9, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Peter Woods. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Zion Young at pick No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Eli Stowers at Round 3, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Elijah Sarratt at slot 109 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hezekiah Masses in the 148th pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Nothing to complain about; Demond Claiborne went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Kage Casey was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cameron Ball slid further than he should have, and the 210th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
