Somebody took the Chiefs to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
So much rides on Malik Nabers that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Nabers. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for DeWayne Carter in the 95th overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Kalen King at par in the 133rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Mason McCormick in No. 158 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaiah Williams at pick No. 172 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
