The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chiefs reached some 73 spots for Tez Johnson, and value like that does not grow back. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The Gordon II value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a mismatch in the passing game, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tez Johnson in the 64th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Emery Jones Jr. went about where he belonged in the 66th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malachi Moore in pick No. 96, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 32 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Seth McLaughlin at slot 254 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
