You build a draft on nights like this. Donovan Jackson had no business being available in the 132nd pick, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Alexander proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in the 31st pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Kaleb Johnson in No. 64 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Aireontae Ersery was still sitting there in pick 66, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Darius Alexander in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at Round 4, Pick 31. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Teddye Buchanan in pick No. 256 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
