The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Kamal Hadden, the No. 138 name on the board, sitting there at slot 161 like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Jacobs reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Ruke Orhorhoro at par in Round 2, Pick 31, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Bucky Irving at No. 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Javon Foster in the 131st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Kamal Hadden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid a round early for Curtis Jacobs in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 175 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Magee at the 209th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Walter Rouse at Round 7, Pick 32 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
