The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jarrian Jones, the No. 149 name on the board, in pick 218. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The cost of the Gore Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for Michael Hall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 8; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jonah Elliss at slot 95 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in No. 131, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nehemiah Pritchett at pick No. 158 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Luke McCaffrey in the 172nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones in pick 218 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They let Jordan Magee come to them and pounced at No. 252. It fills a real need, too.
