Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 173rd pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Lovett has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Xavier Legette in No. 64 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Worthy in pick 79, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 32 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 132 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fabien Lovett in slot 159 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylin Simpson in the 173rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kalen DeLoach in the 252nd pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
