This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Chau Smith-Wade, the No. 158 name on the board, stolen at pick 185. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy in pick 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 47 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in the 70th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in Round 4, Pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Chau Smith-Wade here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Joshua Cephus at slot 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
