Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

Fautanu falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Bell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 13
In slot 14 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 38
Kamari Lassiter in pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 46
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 47
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at No. 46, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 73
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in Round 3, Pick 7; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 65
A quiet steal in pick No. 73: Kamren Kinchens for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 74
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 82 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 102
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in the 100th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 124
Jaheim Bell in Round 4, Pick 9 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 119
They robbed the room for Troy Fautanu here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.10 · Pick 185 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 195
They paid a round early for Christian Mahogany in the 185th overall pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 170
Gabriel Murphy in No. 187 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
R7.8 · Pick 228 · Willie Roberts · CB · rank 217
Willie Roberts is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
