The rest of the league will want that one back. Trey Amos tumbling to the Patriots in No. 240 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Very little went wrong, and the A is earned.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. With edge rusher, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with Travis Hunter leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.23
· Pick 23
· Travis Hunter
· CB
· rank 1
In pick No. 23 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that.
R2.6
· Pick 38
· Jahdae Barron
· CB
· rank 13
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Jahdae Barron in No. 38 leaves edge rusher, safety and other spots for later.
R3.5
· Pick 69
· Matthew Golden
· WR
· rank 12
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Matthew Golden in slot 69, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.13
· Pick 77
· Walter Nolen
· DT
· rank 19
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the 77th pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.4
· Pick 105
· Ashton Jeanty
· RB
· rank 2
Taking Ashton Jeanty in pick 105 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.22
· Pick 123
· Cam Ward
· QB
· rank 6
They will replay Cam Ward at Round 4, Pick 22 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.6
· Pick 145
· Wyatt Milum
· OT
· rank 36
They robbed the room for Wyatt Milum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.1
· Pick 219
· T.J. Sanders
· DT
· rank 44
They barely believed it either: T.J. Sanders still on the board at the 219th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.4
· Pick 222
· Tre Harris
· WR
· rank 49
Tre Harris at Round 7, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.22
· Pick 240
· Trey Amos
· CB
· rank 51
Trey Amos at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
