When a board-topper like Donovan Ezeiruaku slides to the 149th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
The Webb pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Armand Membou this early at the Round 1 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Darien Porter, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mikail Kamara in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Donovan Ezeiruaku still on the board at slot 149. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jared Wilson in the 199th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyreak Sapp in Round 7, Pick 21 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Phillip Webb at the 236th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Micah Morris in No. 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
