The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chargers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Roberts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Morgan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Jordan Morgan at pick No. 40 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Nazir Stackhouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in the 103rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy little value on Kiran Amegadjie in Round 4, Pick 8, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 133 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Mustapha at slot 145 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 6: Ty'Ron Hopper for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Ricky White in No. 186 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Willie Roberts in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
