Thirty-one other rooms let Moose Muhammad III slide, and the Chargers were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Bishop to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell in pick No. 76 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Nazir Stackhouse at par in slot 80, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Troy Fautanu, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 122nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They jumped the gun on Cole Bishop, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They let Jamari Thrash come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 13. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Frank Gore Jr. in No. 159 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Moose Muhammad III at slot 190 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 233 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
