There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Eric Watts, 37 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Darius Robinson at pick No. 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Xavier Worthy at pick 34, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 4 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Haynes at slot 68 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Christian Mahogany, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in slot 109: Cam Hart for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaac Guerendo this early at No. 110. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Anthony Gould at the 115th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jalyx Hunt at pick 132 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid sticker price for Luke McCaffrey in the 142nd pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Myles Cole at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Isaiah Williams at par in the 180th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eric Watts at Round 6, Pick 18 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Bub Means in the 224th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
