The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 123 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Everette to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Kelvin Banks Jr. in Round 1, Pick 3, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Bond in pick No. 39, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jihaad Campbell in the 70th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Omarr Norman-Lott at pick 89 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Daylen Everette in the 106th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A running back of that caliber at slot 126 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in No. 164, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at slot 221 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Trevor Etienne at pick No. 235 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Jake Briningstool was still sitting there in the 241st overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
