The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Call it a C- and check back in two years.
They will need McCormick to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 4 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Malachi Corley at pick No. 50, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 53rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mason McCormick this early at the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tykee Smith in No. 161 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trente Jones at pick 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Jordan Magee in the 210th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
