You could see the war room lean forward. Ryan Fitzgerald at the 250th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
If Carroll pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, a steep price for the projection.
Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 29 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 172 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quinn Carroll at the 190th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Ja'Corey Brooks in No. 207, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Mitchell Evans still on the board at pick 237. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Eric Gregory at No. 238 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a specialist like Ryan Fitzgerald reach slot 250 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
