Somebody in pick No. 90 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Caelen Carson, the No. 67 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. The roster fit checks out.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 90 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Ainias Smith in pick No. 126, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Frank Gore Jr. at slot 163, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Mark Perry went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Eric Gentry, who had no business lasting to the 247th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
