You can hear the double-takes from here. The Eagles took Jaylon Carlies at the 243rd overall pick, roughly 31 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Corley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Guyton in the 50th pick, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Somehow Malachi Corley was still sitting there in the 97th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cole Bishop at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Jaylin Simpson, who had no business lasting to pick 163. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in slot 172: Joe Milton III for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christian Jones at pick No. 178 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylon Carlies in pick 243 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
