The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Devin Neal, the 170th overall pick, roughly 86 picks past where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a bendy edge with upside. More want than need.
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach pick No. 53 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in the 58th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Alfred Collins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Fairchild at pick 119 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in No. 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jake Majors at slot 148 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Schwesinger in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Devin Neal at pick 170 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Terrance Ferguson still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Antwane Wells Jr. at Round 6, Pick 11 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Jonah Monheim at slot 209 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled James Burnip all the way to the 248th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
