They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jimmy Horn Jr., 122 picks early at slot 173. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That Carter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that.
They will replay Jalon Walker at slot 44 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tez Johnson at the 76th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Barrett Carter was still sitting there in pick No. 148, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Ty Hamilton in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Tahj Brooks all the way to the 170th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jimmy Horn Jr. in the 173rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Hancock at pick 186 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joey Slackman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, KJ Jefferson in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
