The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The final tally is a middling C-.
They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On value alone, Brooks makes the weekend a net positive.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keon Coleman in the 43rd overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Jonathon Brooks at pick 64 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
The board had DJ James higher than No. 95, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 31 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Javion Cohen at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Joe Milton III at slot 172 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
