Nobody else had Fa'alili Fa'amoe anywhere near pick No. 206. The Browns did, by 50 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Branch at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a centerfielder for the defense. A real need, handled.
In pick 25 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
They paid sticker price for Chris Bell in pick No. 39, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Jake Slaughter, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Zachariah Branch at the 89th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ted Hurst at the 107th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Dametrious Crownover went about where he belonged in No. 146. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Oscar Delp was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 9. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Fa'alili Fa'amoe at slot 206, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kaden Wetjen slid further than he should have, and pick 248 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
