The rest of the league will want that one back. Jake Slaughter tumbling to the 49ers in pick No. 77 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Thieneman reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 13, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Lance at pick No. 116, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Joe Royer went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Will Lee III was the payoff at No. 133. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Harold Perkins Jr. is a better player than slot 138 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Jaeden Roberts in pick 139; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
