Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Colts were there to profit. Connor Lew, the No. 82 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 113. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Devin Bush deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
D'Angelo Ponds slipping to Round 2, Pick 25 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: A.J. Haulcy at pick 78 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Connor Lew at the 113th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Eli Raridon in No. 156 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Josh Cameron in slot 214 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Terion Stewart come to them and pounced at the 249th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Diego Pavia was the payoff at pick No. 254. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
