This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Luke McCaffrey, the No. 141 name on the board, stolen at slot 171. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Mekhi Wingo in the 63rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Michael Hall Jr. in pick 94, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Javon Foster, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braelon Allen in No. 161. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in slot 175; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Donovan Jennings at No. 252 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
