There is reaching, and then there is Damonic Williams at the 249th pick. The Colts jumped the board by 105 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The Cameron pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A real need, handled.
A.J. Haulcy in the 47th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach on Ted Hurst in pick No. 78; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick 113, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Kage Casey at par in Round 5, Pick 16, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a wide receiver like Josh Cameron reach the 214th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Damonic Williams in pick No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaydn Ott at No. 254 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
