The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Proctor.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan at No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Devontez Walker at the 68th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Javon Solomon with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
They jumped the gun on Jarrian Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jared Wiley at pick No. 209 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Rasheen Ali at Round 6, Pick 40 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Josh Proctor in the 229th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
