The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The McMillan steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Graham Barton in the 36th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 40, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 67th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in No. 100: Jalen McMillan for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 102 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dallin Holker at pick 141. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 6, with Ty'Ron Hopper worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Sheridan Jones slipping to pick 223 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
