You can hear the double-takes from here. The Commanders took Bryce Foster at Round 4, Pick 2, roughly 120 spots before his name belonged.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Barrett value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Jordan Morgan, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 4. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Troy Franklin at the 40th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, T.J. Tampa in the 67th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Tommy Eichenberg enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 100. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Batty in pick No. 141, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Miyan Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in slot 223, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
