The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They will need Adams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Caleb Williams in the 2nd overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Chop Robinson in slot 40, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 3, Pick 3, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Matt Goncalves in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Isaiah Adams in pick 102 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaheim Bell in pick No. 141 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Aki Ogunbiyi enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 181. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Brevyn Spann-Ford at par in the 223rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
