It is the swing that defines the weekend: Karson Sharar in the Round 7 slot, a good 113 spots before the room expected him.
The McAlister pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Jake Slaughter is a better player than pick 71 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Ephesians Prysock in the 147th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Jeff Caldwell at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Eric McAlister come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 28. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Karson Sharar in slot 223 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
