Nobody had Xavier Thomas this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 32 spots to get him at pick 223. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
On value alone, Adams makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Morgan at No. 34 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at the 36th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at pick No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Xavier Legette at slot 40 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 47 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They took Zach Frazier at par in slot 67, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bucky Irving in pick 100. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
McKinnley Jackson at No. 102 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Beau Brade in the 107th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaiah Adams at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in the 148th overall pick with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kitan Oladapo is a better player than pick No. 181 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A wild overpay on Xavier Thomas in No. 223, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
